Return to School Plan

Our Return to School Plan

YOUR CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING IS OUR PRIORITY

As the beginning of the new school year approaches, the King Heights Academy team has been working diligently to put a plan in place to ensure a safe return to school for our students and staff members. Our planning is based on the critical need to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission, while supporting students’ overall physical, social, and mental well-being.

Based on current guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Public Health Ontario, we intend to have all students on campus five days a week. As always, the safety and best interests of our students and school community are of the utmost priority; we have put many precautionary measures in place to ensure that the full-time return to school can be done safely.

The following provides a high level overview of our plans for September. We will continue to closely monitor health and safety guidelines and make adjustments as necessary.

In order to ensure a safe physical environment for all community members, we have made several upgrades to our facility and modifications to our operational protocols:

  • Contactless hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the school building.
  • Additional cleaning of high touch surfaces and common areas will take place regularly during the day and in the evenings.
  • Staff members will disinfect classroom surfaces throughout the day.
  • Washrooms will be frequently restocked with supplies (hand soap, paper towels, sanitizer).
  • The number of students in washrooms and changerooms will be limited.
  • Signs and floor markers will be placed throughout the school building to re-enforce physical distancing.
  • Signs will be posted throughout the school reminding students of appropriate respiratory etiquette, hand hygiene, and mask usage. Lessons about these topics will take place in classrooms, using government approved videos and materials.

Thermal Digital Kiosk Stations

State-of-the-art thermal digital kiosk stations will be placed at the entry point and through the school. The units are embedded with the most advanced thermal and motion sensors and are part of a custom-designed indoor analytics software system which will monitor and measure the body temperatures and movements of students and staff within the school premises.

The system is designed to assist in monitoring and maintaining the effectiveness of the schools newly implemented health and safety protocols.
